GOLF
IN THE face of heavy rain and blustery rain, Harry Lythgoe blew away the competition to win Albany Golf Society’s oldest trophy The MacEagle.
Held at Newport, the society battled it out over 18 holes for glory in the medal competition but social secretary Lythgoe shot a brilliant nett 63 that could not be beaten.
Paul Gunnell was second on 64, with Colin Jones pipping Chris Cragg into third after both scored 68.
Jones also secured victory in the putting competition with 25 putts.
This event also ended the season-long eclectic competition with Jack Ince securing the win by improving on two scores.
With fourth place in the MacEagle, Cragg secured his victory in the Order of Merit with 57 points, from Lythgoe on 52 and Simon Train on 47.
Albany also played their inaugural matchplay competition against Ryde seniors at Ryde for the RAGS Shield (Ryde and Albany Golf Society) but the contest ended in a draw.
