GOLFGRACE Hill achieved a unique treble by winning Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club’s ladies’ championship for the third year in a row last week.
The 18 year old beat off competition from 16 other competitors in the scratch competition and, after the morning round, there was a three-way tie with Grace, Debbie Berry and Fran Cole all on 87.
Despite the wind blowing stronger in the afternoon and the scores being generally higher, Grace bettered her morning score by five strokes to shoot 82.
This gave her an eventual score of 169, eight shots clear of Cole, in second, with 177, and Sheryl Jackson in third, with 184.
The Handicap Cup was won by Cole, with a nett 145, Tina Woodward in second, with 151 and Lesley Ismail in third, with 152.
The Gallop Cup, an 18-hole medal competition, was won by Chris Gould with nett 72. Second was Jean Munds, with 73, and in third was Pat Attrill, with 74.
The Harrison Trophy, an 18-hole stableford for handicaps 29-36 was won by Wendy King, with 32 points. Christine O’Brien was second on countback, with 29 points ,and in third was Pearl Robertson, also with 29.
Following the competition, those who donated trophies presented them to the winners.
Pam Watson-Lee presented the Scratch Salver, Joyce Gallop presented the Gallop Cup and Frances Harrison presented the Harrison Trophy.
Ladies’ captain Lesley Ismail presided over the prize-giving and also gave two new prizes to the best nett am and pm scores, which were won by Debbie Berry and Lillian Bushby.

IN BLUSTERY conditions, the ladies at Newport Golf Club battled it out for the Silver Jubilee Trophy, last week.
There were some good scores throughout the day but it was Bev Whorwood who won the day, three points clear of her rivals, with a total score of 39.
Second was lady captain Bet Hillier with 36 points, with Maureen Little, third, with 34. She had a better back nine than fourth-placed Annie Wakeling, who also scored 34.
