Cambridge crush Finchley

Finchley 0 Cambridge 23

Finchley found life difficult against high-fliers and potential promotion challengers Cambridge, who gave them a lesson.

They were penned in their own half for much of the first period, with only sporadic breakouts.

Cambridge got their reward after 25 minutes when a good move from forwards to backs resulted in the centre going over for an unconverted try.

A similar move on the opposite flank just before half time saw Cambridge run in a simple try, converted for a 13-0 lead.

A good break by Burman should have produced a try for Finchley, but Cambridge were resolute in defence and their lines were cleared.

The pattern was repeated in the second half, when good defensive play by Finchley's forwards kept the score down.

But it was only a matter of time before Cambridge stretched their advantage, and they ran in two more unconverted tries .

To be fair to Finchley, they remain one of the few amateur outfits in a Second Division that has become somewhat semi-professional in its set up.

They'll be looking for more points to maintain their mid-table slot when they visit Welwyn on Saturday.
