THE IW county pool team battled hard against a strong Somerset side last weekend, and just fell short.
The men’s A team started superbly, taking a 5-0 lead but were quickly pegged back to trail 7-5 and in the end lost 24-20. Nick Lee put in the performance of the day, winning all four of his frames, while Pat Boarer won three.
The men’s B team were undone by a very strong Somerset start. The mainland side raced into an 11-1 lead which they never managed to peg back, in the end losing 29-15. Gareth Collins led the way with three frame wins, with Michael Gardner winning two on his debut.
The ladies’ team, after getting off to a good start, lost to the outstanding Somerset ladies 34-10. Players of the match for the IW were one of their newest recruits, Holly Taylor-Norris, who won three games, while Kelly Horton and Emily McShane won two each.
