SHOOTING

A TEAM from the Island had mainland success at the Practical Shooting Tournament at The Grange near Birmingham.

Run by Action Air (IPSC) the event uses airsoft pistols, although the same rules as for real firearms apply.

Shooters were required to run 12 courses with a mixture of distances and targets, and shoot at cardboard and metal targets. The results were based on a hit factor, which is worked out on points divided by time.

The IW shooters were led by Kristian Horlock, 34, of Newport, who came fifth, while youngest member Hayden Rooney, 15, came ninth.

Darren Twine, 40, of Wootton, was 13th with John Nicholson, 36, of Newport, came 15th.

Mark Rooney, 45, of Ryde, came 16th.

Also representing the IW team were Lee Hindmarsh, 24, of Wroxall, and Dan Davis, 27, of Fareham.

These great results were all the more impressive given the IW is one of the country’s newest clubs, having started earlier this year.
