Chertsey Town 2

Hampton 0

Hampton lost 2-0 in a friendly match at Chertsey on Tuesday night but at least it was a better all round performance than of late.

Hampton played well for long periods and dominated play especially for most of the second half but failed significantly in front of goal. Robin Lewis was the best player on the pitch, Ian Savage running him a close second. Chertsey's goalkeeper Tony Wells, who has also turned out for Hampton's Reserves this season, was on form and deprived Andy Gray, Darren Forte and Savage of goals that would have secured a comfortable victory for the Beavers. As it was Chertsey scored a goal in each half, the second after they had weathered an intensive spell of pressure and completely against the run of play.

The problem for Hampton at the moment is that they are trying to replace three key players from last season; Darren Powell, Barry Moore and Craig Reilly. However the bulk of last season's squad is still around and they did gain promotion from Division One. There is plenty of time yet for things to come right on the pitch, after all the real stuff doesn't start until August 22.

Hampton: Mark Russell, Ramone Giwa (Warren Drew, 46), Peter Wood, Steve Croxford (Francis Vines 64), Steve Cheshire, Dave Stephenson, Darren Forte, Ian Savage, Johnson Hippolyte, Andy Gray, Robin Lewis

q Hampton's next first team friendly is at Bracknell Town this Saturday, kick-off 3pm.

Hayes 7

Last Saturday Hampton had a really bad day at home to Hayes of the Conference.

John Crouch injured himself in the warm up and Mark Russell was unable to play due to illness. The reserves played out a goalless draw at Feltham on Saturday and then went down 9-0 to Ash United also of the Combined Counties.
