LEWIS Ridett produced the performance of his weightlifting career last weekend, coming fifth at the English Championships at Lilleshall National Sports Centre.
Lewis, 19, was in the 12-man 77kg category and competition was fierce.
He opened with a 98kg snatch, a former competition PB, followed by 103kg, and just missing 106kg.
In the clean and jerk, starting at a weight he’d done many times in training, Lewis opened at 127kg, but was too complacent with the weight and fell backwards.
He then attempted this again and lifted it with ease, and he went on to manage 131kg at his final attempt, although this was disqualified on a press out decision.
With his two best lifts combined, Lewis achieved a PB total of 230kg for fifth place, beating his previous best of 223kg and qualifying him for the British Senior Championships.
Lewis thanked the IW Council and Gurit for their support.
