ANOTHER girl got her name into the record books at Medina Leisure Centre on Sunday, for the second weekend of the IW Swimming Championships.
Lottie James, 12, of Seaclose Swimming Club, had dominated her age group in the first weekend of competition and followed that up by winning all three of Sunday’s events — 100m and 200m freestyle and 100m butterfly — including breaking the record in the 100m freestyle.
She swam a time of 1.07.26, just four hundredths of a second better than the previous record set in 2000 by L. Wareham.
Throughout the event, like Lottie, there were consistent performances with particular swimmers dominating their age group.
Abigail Lacey swept the girls’ ten years age group, to win five out of the six disciplines over the two weekends, while for the boys, Tyler Hobson completed a total sweep by winning all six events, including a massive 12-second victory over rival Louis Herbert in the 100m butterfly.
Elsewhere for the boys, Sam Sussmes won all three events on the Sunday, to add to his two wins from the previous weekend, while Sam Tinson-Wood returned from university to both freestyle events in blistering times. Rhys Hunt provided some serious competition in the 100m freestyle, and went on to win the butterfly.
Izabella Blacklock’s victory in the girls’ 13 to 14 years 200m freestyle was the quickest time overall for the girls, some three seconds ahead of anyone else, while her joint win in the 100m butterfly with Sid McLaren was almost a second quicker than all the other age groups, as they both finished in 1.14.04.
Meanwhile, in the boys’ 200m freestyle, Luke Oakley, 17, was only three hundredths of a second slower than Tinson-Wood, four years his senior.
At the end of the second weekend, shield for the overall points winners were presented.
