A motorist who mowed down a 15-year-old Kenley boy in a hit and run accident is being hunted by police this week.

James Steel, from Cullesden Road, was riding his bike on Hartley Down when he was knocked over by a car driving on the wrong side of the road on Monday night (January 28).

James had been coming home from an army cadet meeting in Old Coulsdon when the accident happened at 10pm.

He was left with a broken arm, broken teeth and a mangled bike.

James, who had to undergo dental surgery on Tuesday to replace his teeth, told the Guardian: "I was riding my bike when I saw a car in front of me which was driving on the wrong side of the road to get round a bollard.

"The vehicle's lights were on full beam and the next thing I knew I was on the floor. I was lucky I didn't land on my head.

"I couldn't see what kind of car it was because it was so dark."
