JUDOTHERE were medals galore for the four members of Ryde Judo Club, who took part in the British Judo Association’s Hampshire County Close Competition earlier this month.
Two junior members and two seniors took part in the competition at the Portsmouth Mountbatten Centre.
Topping the tree and winning a gold medal was Lee Mumberson, a qualified coach at the club. He won the men’s under 100kg category before ataking part in the open event where he was just beaten for first place by a third dan, and received a silver medal.
Alan Hunt fought in the under-90kg men’s category and, although fighting opponents at a much higher grade, he put up a brilliant display and won bronze.
For the juniors, Charlie Grant fought in the under-44kg junior girls’ category and won silver, while Amber Morfee fought in the under-32kg junior girls’ category and won bronze.
A spokesperson for the club said: "This was an excellent day for the competitors and it is hoped will encourage other members to enter future events."
