Following two successive away defeats, Bromley bounced back to form with a well-deserved 2-0 win against fifth-in-the-table Northwood last Saturday at Hayes Lane.

Amazingly, the visitors opted to play the first 20 minutes with only 10 men because their ace goal-scorer Lawrence Yaku had been delayed in heavy traffic on the M25.

It was a move which could have backfired badly, but Yaku's arrival only seemed to inspire Bromley and they took the lead after 29 minutes.

Kirk Watts cleverly dribbled past two defenders and raced into the penalty area before setting up his brother, Grant, for a simple tap-in and his first goal since signing three weeks ago.

Yaku then had a great chance to equalise on the stroke of half-time when he latched onto a pinpoint through-ball but, to the relief of home fans and players alike, he managed only to screw his shot wide of Danny Harwood's post.

Bromley then increased their lead after 58 minutes when Grant Watts returned the favour to Kirk, who collected a cleverly played pass inside the full-back before running on and placing a sweetly-hit shot past Andy Felton in the Northwood goal.

The Lillywhites have had several pairs of brothers playing for them since the late 1950s, but this is first time that brothers have scored in the same match.

Andy Silk might have added a third from Bromley, but he shot over the crossbar from a good position.

Northwood had two late chances which could have set up a tense finish.

First, Scott FitzGerald shot wide from close range and then Harwood was forced to make a good save from Dave Sargent.

Bromley, who played Carshalton as we went to press late night, travel to Whyteleafe, who are three points and one place below them in the table, on Saturday.
