Now, at the end of the season, Walker has some thinking to do after they finished bottom of the pile and face life in the Ryman second division next term.

But Walker remains optimistic about the forthcoming season in the lower division.

He said: "We may have gone down, but the club will re-group in the summer, the players will come back for pre-season training and we will try to win our way back up."

Former Brentford professional Walker, 39, joined the club as coach last October, after a series of temporary appointments.

Many at the club believe that Walker is the man to revive its fortunes.

Chairman Nick Keel reckons that the former Bee is the man to do just that.

Their near neighbours Staines finished the season in a commanding position and will want to carry that on into the next campaign.
