Seniors’ captain Alan Dyson presenting the trophy to winner, Chris Kershaw.
NAVY veterans were on target at Ventnor Golf Club’s senior championship on Tuesday.
Retired surgeon captain Chris Kershaw (20), registered a handicap lowering nett 66, which neatly matched his age.
Richard Lane (19), who as a Lieut-Cmdr survived the sinking of HMS Coventry in the Falklands War, was third on 76.
Separating them was Sandy Stritton (23) with 74, who while claiming no nautical connection, humorously hinted Chris might be considered a bit of golfing pirate.
Richard had a titanic battle to get among the medals, edging out John McIntosh (18) on countback, with the latter doing the same to defending champion Alan Dyson (19).
In presenting the trophy to his successor, Alan said he took particular pleasure in doing so as Chris is a future captain of the seniors’ section.
