JORDAN Sundborg proved he was still the Island’s top young talent after retaining the IW Junior Championship scratch title at Osborne last week.

In a great day of competition, almost 40 juniors from all the IW’s clubs, with handicaps ranging from 1 to 45, took part.

The scratch championship produced some excellent golf with Matt Mew (73) and Sundborg (74) setting the pace. They were soon followed by Josh Oddy (76) Conor Richards (75) and Tommy Robinson (79).

In the next group, Billy McCormack came in with a 74 and that group of six made the cut for the second round in the afternoon.

First out were Robinson and Oddy. Robinson produced another 79 but Oddy had 72 to add to his earlier 76 to make a total of 148 to put him in contention.

Next in were McCormack with a 74 to make 150 and Richards who hit 75 to make another 150.

Mew shot a 77 in the final pairing to record another 150, but Sundborg held his nerve to card 73 and make his total 147, winning the title by one shot.

There were four handicap trophies to be won. The Bennett Trophy for handicaps 0 to 14 was won by McCormack with a nett 68, with the Golf Union Trophy for handicaps 15-24 went to Jacob Jordon with nett 74. The Jack Mellor Trophy for handicaps 25 to 36 was won by Sam Barber from Freshwater with a 66, and this also won him the trophy for the best overall handicap score.

The Wright Family Shield, for handicaps over 36 was won by Max Palmer.
