Parkrun muddier than ever

Friday, January 4, 2013

ATHLETICS PARKRUN returned last weekend, although the weather conspired to make it the muddiest run yet.

After its cancellation the weekend before Christmas Day because of flooding, course director Ray Scovell tweaked the Medina course once more so runners could enjoy their weekly 5km run without needing a wetsuit.

However, most of the 65 hardy runners, many in Santa suits, still crossed the finish line caked in mud.

Unfortunately. a misdirection meant the first ten runners or so actually completed a kilometre less than everyone else.

According to the Parkrun website, Andrew McEwan won the race in a time of 20.03, with Stuart Backhouse and Simon McMorran close behind in second and third respectively.

Sarah Hironaka, from Mornington Chasers, was the first woman and fifth overall, in 20.43.
