ATHLETICS TOM Wade smashed the parkrun record last weekend, steaming round the 5km course in 15.35.
Prior to the run he made it clear he was going to try to beat the record he had set earlier in the year, and from the gun he set a blistering pace. By the end he was almost three minutes ahead of his rivals, with young Sam Metcalf second in 18.31, and Stuart Backhouse third in 18.55.
For the women, Mary Norman was fastest in 21.49, with teenager Grace Crumplin second in 21.57 and under-14s runner Elsie Lewis third in a PB time of 22.05.
Not to be outdone, Elsie’s older brother, Jacob, also steamed round faster than ever before, and was actually the first junior to finish in brilliant fourth overall, in a PB time of 19.07.
The parkrunner of the month for November, Megan Eggeling, once again achieved the highest age graded score, of 86.83 per cent.
Of the 152 runners taking part, 28 set new PB times, and around 50 were wearing Santa hats for the Christmas season.
Tomorrow (Saturday) is the fun-filled Christmas parkrun, starting at 9am at Medina, and runners are encouraged to don fancy dress, bring nibbles for the after-run party and also bring items for the IW Foodbank sleigh.
