Ventnor ASC ANGLERS had to be quick last week as the club held a fishing race.Kevin Basham won with the heaviest bag of 5lb 14oz, with Geoff Thorner second on 5lb 4oz. The next leg will be a rover on November 16, but before that is the club’s shore league fixture next Saturday, November 2, with premium fish pouting, between 7pm and 11pm. Weigh-in is until midnight at the clubhouse. This year’s 22-hour open will be November 23 and 24. Bembridge AC The club was hoping the to finally hold its cod open this weekend, but once again it looks like the competition will have to be postponed.Organisers had hoped strong winds would have stirred up the inshore waters sufficient to get plenty of cod on the feed in time for Sunday.But the forecast is set for gales, and organisers, at the time of going to press, were considering postponing once more.A spokesperson said: “In the event that the weather forces a postponement of the competition, we will attempt to hold it on the first reserve date of November 10, with all times being the same as the current date.”If the competition does go ahead, fishing will be between 9am and 3.30pm with the scales closing at the clubhouse at 6pm.Full details on prizes and where to book, as well as latest weather status, can be found at their official website, www.bembridge-ac.co.uk
