A RECORD number took part in Wight Tri’s second event of its duathlon series in Parkhurst last week.

In all, 33 people tackled two runs of either two miles or 3.5 miles, and a 13-mile bike leg in between.

Dave McDine took victory, completing the short course in 1.20.20, just 20 seconds outside his nomination. Simon Riley was second in 1.30 for the long course event, 51 seconds inside his nomination, while Mary Norman (long course) was third, finishing 55 seconds inside her nomination of 1.45.

Fastest overall on the long course was Sean Williams, in 1.23.59, with Daron Perkins and Gary Kurth in 1.26.43 and 1.26.50 respectively.

Sarah Woods was fastest woman, finishing a mix of short and long in a time of 1.21.51.

Meanwhile, Adam Younger took on the hilly and challenging Lulworth Cove Half Marathon on behalf of the club.

The event actually measured further than the standard half marathon distance at 16.3 miles, and included 3,500ft of ascent. He finished 185th out of almost 400 competitors in a time of 3.30.05.
