The club now leads the Junior Boys competition ahead of Portsmouth Northsea SC.

Sean Duffy produced inspired performances to win the junior boys' title in the 400m individual medley and 100m butterfly in addition to seven top-six places. Paul Budd picked up the junior boys' title in the 100m breaststroke, losing out in the 50m and 200m breaststroke. Robert Doran also swam well with four placings in the top six. Jonny Rydquist, 17, also had a successful weekend with Jonny coming seventh in the 200m breaststroke.

Twelve-year-olds Sean Renfer and Robin Amson notched up valuable experience for the future.

The championships continue with the exciting team events in two weeks' time when the junior and senior points competition will be decided.

Hat trick for Kristian

Hosts Elmbridge Phoenix were only a whisker away from an impressive win at the Walton Pool swimming gala on May 6.

The 'A' side came second only a point behind winners Tonbridge, of Kent. The others to take part were Teddington and two squads from Sutton and Cheam.

Kristian Wilcox, 13, won a hat-trick of titles in the boys under 14 category. He triumphed in the breast, fly and back stroke events and was part of the Hedley relay team that were also successful.

Victoria Beaney, picked up a trio of wins in the under 16 category. She won the fly, breast and also the open girls' breast stroke.

There were also other wins for the girls freestyle relay team: Michael Garside (two disciplines), Kirwenn Nunes (breast and free), Natalie Prince (free), Will Vincer (free) and Andrew Parrish (fly) also winning their respective events.
