SANDOWN Bay Academy continued their long tradition of success in the IW Schools’ Indoor Rowing Championships last week.
The school won the competition by more than 20 points, dominating the Year 7 and 9 events, while gaining podium places in most races.
This year’s championships, hosted by Sandown, featured the biggest ever turnout of IW secondary schools.
Christ the King College’s Year 10 and 11 teams impressed and Ryde School Boat Club won the sixth form competition.
Organiser Stuart Johnson, PE deputy at Sandown, said: “We had more than 150 competitors this year and enjoyed some of the tightest racing we have seen in years, with wins across all schools.
“It was particularly encouraging to see youngsters competing, who might not normally enjoy the traditional sports, and reflects the growing popularity of this inclusive sport.”

Overall results: 1 Sandown, 2 Christ the King College, 3 Island Free School, 4 Carisbrooke College, 5 Ryde School Boat Club, 6 Medina College, 7 Ryde Academy.
