Junior football: Dons triumph in Holland

Hendon U13 spent the Easter weekend playing in the largest European youth football tournament, the Cronvielt Invitational in Holland and, after overcoming Swiss giants Grasshopper of Zurich, and Belgians RC Liege, they became overall champions.

Hendon proved too strong for Liege in a 6-0 victory, with a hat-trick by Patrick Cronin, two goals from Tony Salacuri and one from Adam Martin.

The second match, against Honslerdiyk was a much closer affair, Nicky Kemp earning Hendon a 1-1 draw.

Grasshoppers gave Hendon a torrid time but the defence hung on gamely, and Steve Weston netted twice to clinch the match and the group.

Waterlogged ground then brought a premature halt to the tournament, and the organisers decided that the champions would be the qualifers with the best overall record from the eight groups, Hendon beating Feyenoord by a single goal.

Feeling the effects of their Easter exertions, Hendon went down 3-1 to Pinner Albion, Simon Baptiste scoring.

Hendon U17 reached the semi-finals of the President's Cup with a 4-1 win over Celtic U18s, Chris Cylwik (2), Wayne Da Costa and Darren Delandro scoring.
