Schools’ gold for star Lottie

Double gold medallist Lottie James.

LOTTIE James swept the board at the Hampshire Schools’ Swimming Championships at Waterlooville.

She took gold in all the junior girls’ breaststroke events — 100m and 200m — as well as a silver in the 200m medley and a bronze in the 100m freestyle.

She and 12 other swimmers from West Wight Swimming Club represented their respective schools in the championships, and Lottie was not the only one to make the podium.

Luke Herbert took bronze in the 100m backstroke and butterfly in the intermediate boys’ competition, while in the senior girls’ Ella Hiller won silver in the 400m freestyle and bronze in the 200m butterfly.

PB swims came from Megan Rice in the 100m freestyle, Eric Tasca and Charlie Fennimore in the 200m breaststroke and Molly Fennimore in the 200m freestyle.

Other swimmers who put in sterling performances for their schools were Lucy Miller, Charley Buckett, Daisy Whittaker, Ben Curliss, Joseph Franks and Jake Williams.

Meanwhile, Jake Williams and Lottie James also competed at the Portsmouth Northsea Level 1 Christmas Cracker Open Meet at the Mountbatten Centre.

Swimming in the 13 to 14 years age group, Jake, 14, smashed his long course PBs in the 50m and 100m backstroke, winning a well-deserved silver medal in the 50m, and lowering his long course PB by 1.5 seconds.

In the same age group, Lottie, 13, gained excellent new long course PBs in the 50m freestyle, 200m medley and 100m breaststroke.
