ROWING RYDE Rowing Club’s junior pair secured its second championship title after winning the Poole Regatta on Saturday.

Dale Buckett and Sam Corney coped with the rough conditions at the rescheduled event to record their fourth win of the season.

It gave the pair their fifth championship point and secured the Hants and Dorset ARA Championship with two regattas remaining.

Their victory was the club’s second championship of the season, following the junior senior fours won at Newport Regatta.

There was also success for Shanklin Rowing Club, after 15-year-old Alex Robertson won the men’s novice skulls.

Alex was one of only two scullers to finish the race due to the rough conditions.

Other Ryde crews did not fair as well on Saturday, with the men’s senior four of Sam Cocker, Tom Clark, John Gedling and Matt Allsopp finishing in second place.

The junior senior crew of Harvey Kirkby, Charlie Norman, Charlie Gedling, Jo Norman and Max Reeve coxing finished third.

Corney and Buckett teamed up with Andreas Hicks and James Cleary, with Reeve coxing, to finish third in the men’s junior fours.

The veteran 40 crew, with Mark Young making his first competitive outing for the club for a number of years, alongside Mick Jenner, Russell Page, Simon Saunders and Ed Newnham coxing, finished fourth.
