CLAY shooter Kath Bright has been in top form ahead of the Island Games, reclaiming her place in the England team after a major competition last week.
Bright warmed up for Gotland by winning the All England Ladies DTL competition at Bisley, meaning she will represent England in Scotland in July and Australia next March.
However, prior to those competitions, Bright will be one half of a two-person clay shooting team competing for Team IW in Gotland, Sweden, in June.
She has had to buy a new gun especially for the games, costing around £1,000, as Sweden use steel ammunition, rather than lead.
Her team-mate, Joe Joseph, who won bronze at the 2015 Jersey games in the English skeet team, has been practising a different discipline, automatic ball trap (ABT), as only four competitions are being held in Gotland.
The pair will also be competing in the same events, which will be open, rather than spilt into men’s and women’s categories.
Bright said: “Preparations are going well.
“We have both had lots of practice and competitions in the lead up to the games, so the pressure of competition should not be too much of a surprise.
“I think we have a great chance of medals in both the team and individual ABT, as both of us have recently put in scores higher than medal winners n previous games.”
