Helen Jameson, a medalist at the Moscow Olympics in 1980, broke the world record for her age group at the National Masters Championship in Sheffield.
The Raynes Park swimmer recorded a time of 31.1seconds in the 50 metres backstroke - a new world best for the 35 to 39 years group.
Helen later gave her club - Spencer Swim team - a tremendous lead and together with exceptional performances by her team mates, demolished the opposition and broke the world record held by Sandiago Club USA in the ladies 120 years plus 4 x 50m medley team in 2.04.49. The team's times were: Jameson (backstroke) 31.20; Siobhan Hartley (breaststroke) 35.03; Nicola Sommers (butterfly) 30.76; Sue Hill (freestyle) 27.50.
The last team including John Gordon who also won two gold, one silver and one bronze and a share in a GC record in the men's freestyle relay at Sheffield.
