SPEEDWAYWIGHTLINK Islanders skipper Nick Simmons has been named the National League rider of the year.
It was announced this week that Simmons has agreed to lead the Islanders for another year, and co-promoter Kevin Shepherd said: "We were over the moon for Nick to be voted the National League rider of the year.
"It’s great for everyone at the club to see Nick return to captain the side. He is very popular with the supporters and team mates."
Meanwhile, the club has announced that a new rider is joining the fray.
Marc Owen, a former Newport and Rye House rider, has come to the Islanders on loan from Hackney, where he finished the season with a 5.33 points average.
He said: "It’s time for a change, riding a bigger track for a year or so should help me progress rather than just staying on the smaller, tighter, tracks.
"When I first saw the track I thought how big it was but I think the banks on the track are brilliant, you can generate lots of speed."
The club is expected to announce another signing this week, while Brendan Johnson and Rikki Mullins have both been released.
