Sporting washout

HEAVY rain has once again obliterated the Island's footballing programme - and forced the cancellation of another sporting event.

Parkrun organisers took the decision at 8.15am this morning (Saturday) to cancel the 5km free running event for only the second time in its' two-year history, as the Seaclose course was too dangerous.
Meanwhile, the IW football programme has been entirely washed out, with the IW FA website stating only one game, as of last night, had not been called off. However, the tie between Binstead COB and Vectis Nomads is unlikely to have survived after this morning's deluge.
In the Sydenhams Wessex League, East Cowes Vics's home tie with Petersfield has already been called off, while Newport's home game with Bournemouth Poppies failed a pitch inspection at 9am. Cowes Sports's game at Team Solent was called off at 10am.
In rugby, all three top teams have had their games called off, too. Sandown and Shanklin's trip to KCS Old Boys is off due to a waterlogged pitch, the same reason Ventnor's home game against Fareham Heathens has been postponed. IW's home game against Portsmouth is off at the away team's request.
