KAYAKERS and canoeists are wanted to help keep swimmers safe during this year's Pier to Pier.
The Isle of Wight Marlins Club needs more safety boats for the annual swim between Sandown Pier and the former Shanklin Pier site, which takes place on Saturday, August 12.
Anyone with a kayak or canoe who can help, must be available from 1pm at Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club.
The race starts at Sandown Pier at 2.30pm.
Race officer Bob Cooper said: "It is vital we have enough manual safety boats alongside the Sandown and Shanklin independent lifeboat, Ryde Inshore Rescue lifeboat and the Shanklin fishermen who have motorised craft.
"You should meet at Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club at around 1pm and then paddle up to Sandown.
"When the race starts, you will act as the first point of call for the swimmers, as well as guiding them across the bay.
"If there are any swimmers who would like to enter, please visit the Isle of Wight Marlins Swim Club website for an entry form and information."
