Synchronised SkatingSUPPORTERS of synchronised skaters on the Island have been hailed for keeping the performers on the ice.
The Island’s youngest team, Wight Sequins, have received funding from IW Pearl, enabling them to take part in national competitions, despite the closure of Ryde Arena.
The Brighstone business has donated a pearl pendant for auction at the team’s fundraising singing competition in May.
Wightlink also provide free travel for competitions and training sessions at mainland rinks, while Wight Aid, Wight Crystal Water and Shanklin Rotary Club have all made financial contributions to help all the Island four synchro teams.
Coach Terri Smith said: "Without the support of these IW businesses and charities, as well as the generous donations we receive, I really don’t think our teams would be skating any more.
"This year has been the most challenging for all skaters and especially their parents.
"Unfortunately losing our rink in Ryde now involves extra financial costs and outstanding commitment from all skaters and their families.
"This requires more dedication than I’ve ever seen in my 15 years of coaching ice skating."
