Stanmore 189-7 Winchmore Hill 190-3

Despite a magnificent century by opener Umesh Valjee (102), Stanmore went out of the Daily Mirror Middlesex Federation Cup in a seven-wicket defeat by league rivals Winchmore Hill on Wednesday..

But they progressed in the Ibex Cup with a 69-run win over Phoenicians and visit league opponents Wembley on Sunday.

In the Mirror match, Stanmore were 83-4, when Valjee found a useful partner in Ahmed, and they added 89, before Ahmed (23) was run-out. Valjee was sixth out at 185, and Stanmore's innings closed at 189-7 off their 45 overs.

Openers Bowen (64) and Varley (41) put Winchmore Hill well on the way to victory with a stand of 122, before both departed in quick succession, and Ahmed fell at 157.

Stanmore continued to plug away, but Winchmore Hill clinched victory with five balls to spare at 190-3.

A second-wicket stand of 79 between Goh (51) and Jeff Hurrell (35) was the foundation for Stanmore's substantial score of 202-9 in their Ibex Cup match with Phoenicians. It was always a struggle for Phoenicians, who crashed to 75-5, and although O'Sullivan (49 no) offered brave resistance they were a long way short of their target at 133-7.

Tomorrow (Friday), Stanmore meet Pinner in the semi-final of the Mayor of Harrow's Knock-Out Cup at Bessborough CC.

Following an all-day league match at lowly Hampstead on Saturday, they return to cup action in the Ibex county competition at Wembley on Sunday.
