ATHLETICS COHAN Tyler won Ryde Harriers’ one-mile track championship last week — but he was tested at the finish.
The triathlete stormed ahead early in the race but Harrier Tom Blackwell kept on his tail and by the finishing line was only one second behind. Cohan crossed the line in 5.19, with Tom finishing in 5.20.
Another triathlete, Steve Gratton, was third in 5.28, with IW Road Runner Alan Rowe fourth, one second behind.
First woman was Sarah Kavanagh, in 6.04, with Hayley Stevenson second in 6.37 and Mandy Womack third, in 6.40. The men’s vet 40 prize was taken by Andrew Lewis, with the vet 60 prize won by Graham Matiland. Stephen Lee was first vet 70. For the women, the vet 45 winner was Mandy, with Judy Brown winning the vet 55 prize.
