GOLF THE rescheduled Albany Golf Society captain’s day competition, postponed from three weeks ago because of the weather, almost got called off again last weekend.

But the golfers bravely headed out at Osborne Golf Club, and produced some surprisingly good scores considering the conditions.

Last year’s captain, Simon Train, was the only member to complete the 18 holes in an under par score and came in with an amazing 39 points, four ahead of second and third placed Glyn Mew and Chris Cragg who both scored 35, Mew beating Cragg on countback.

Captain Tam Wilson gave prizes for the longest drive to Mark Spurrell and nearest-the-pin to Colin Jones.

Although the afternoon competition was called off due to the weather, the Ocean Deck competition saw its semi finals decided for the next match at Ryde at the end of July, Jack Ince playing Cragg and Jones playing Tony Cole.
