NETBALL

SHANKLIN Primary School is hosting a Jubilee Netball Challenge today (Friday).

The game, between former members of Shanklin Netball Club, spanning six decades, and current staff at the school, starts at 3pm and if successful, could become an annual event.

Match organiser and Shanklin veteran Jane Priest said: "A few of the former players thought it would be a good idea to get together for a reunion match and we are grateful that the school, who include a couple of our former players, are able to host it."

The game is sponsored by Wessex Fire, and a trophy has been donated by Julie Leaver, a player at Shanklin Netball Club, and now a director in the Shanklin-based company.

Former players are travelling from the mainland to play alongside local players who first turned out for the club in the 1960’s.

Co-organiser Dawn Alabaster added: "We have been overwhelmed by the response and the interest, and it would be good to meet up again and remember old times, as well as play a game again."
