A FORMER Cowes High School pupil is on the way to the top in the world of basketball.

Tristan Hall, who is 18 next week, has been signed as an apprentice by a British Basketball League team.

Tristan, who became a national under-15 champion with Solent Kestrels, is one of only two apprentices signed up by the Marjon Plymouth Raiders.

He is attending the Raiders’ new academy at Discovery College, in the Devon city, as well as training with the first team five nights a week.

Earlier this year, Tristan represented the UK at under-18 elite level in Paris.

Last weekend, he was in the Raiders’ squad for games against touring Dublin Thunder and a USA Select team, and got some valuable game time, scoring five points.

Raiders’ boss Gavin Love told the Plymouth Herald Tristan was young, enthusiastic and would keep their older players on their toes.

He said Tristan, a former Vectis Rugby Club member, would ideally get a place in the USA education system next season to play basketball, where Raiders would monitor their progress.
