VECTOR Martini was the big winner of the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes powerboat race yesterday (Sunday) — which organisers hailed a roaring success.

This year’s event was held in perfect weather and with the start just off the Royal Yacht Squadron, thousands of spectators got a brilliant view as well as the ear-splitting sound of 16 high-powered boats going for glory.

The Vector Martini boat, crewed by Mal Grease, Peter Dredge and Simon Powell, enjoyed a comfortable win on the first leg to Torquay and then really let loose on the way home, opening up a huge gap between themselves and their rivals.

Smokin’ Aces, crewed by Chris and Nicholas Dodge, was second on both legs, with Silverline (Drew and Ali Langdon) coming third in the first leg, and Team Barwood third in the second leg.
