TABLE TENNIS NEWPORT Vics A’s domination of the IW Table Tennis League continued last weekend as they extended their lead to seven points in Division 1.

Vics are now well clear of rivals Smallbrook Smashers after beating Ryde Nil 10-0 this week.

Chris Angus, Dave Hilliam and Pedro Lopez won all their games, while Nil’s Andy McQuillan took all three of his opponents to four sets.

Fourth place Havenstreet A had a chance of closing in on Bembridge Goodies this week but they only managed a draw 5-5, with Mike Bulpitt and Jim Hall winning two games each for the Goodies, Kevin Gatrell and Rob Warren winning two games each for Havenstreet.

Shanklin Piranhas are holding onto fifth position by two points, after losing to the Smashers 6-4.

Andrew Ely won his three games with the Smashers, keeping his top spot in the averages and remaining unbeaten.

Don Hobbs and Piyachai Chainiyom won two apiece for the Piranhas.

Rookley Dogs have jumped from seventh to sixth, after their hard-fought win over Newport Vics B, 8-2. Tom Johnson won his three games, with Iain Hall and Stephen White winning two games each for the Dogs.

Barry Joyce and Dave Newnham won one game each for Vics B.

In Division 2, Rookley Bees have buzzed ahead of Ryde Rhinos and have a six-point lead at the top of the table but they have played a game more than everyone else. Other movers in Division 2 were Ryde Rooks, moving from fifth to equal third after winning 7-3 over Smallbrook Zimmers.

In Division 3, Saints narrowed Smallbrook Muskateers’ lead at the top of the table to one point. Meanwhile, Wiffwaffers have climbed to fourth at the expense of Smallbrook Still Sharp, after a 10-0 win over Vics Juniors.
