Vics’ early lead after Havenstreet rout

TABLE TENNIS

NEWPORT Vics A have made the early running in Division 1 of the IW Table Tennis League.

After two weeks’ of competition, Vics hold top spot with 17 points after their recent 10-0 away victory over Havenstreet A, thanks to Dave Hilliam, Christopher Angus and Pedro Lopez winning all their games.

Bembridge Goodies are in second place, after 8-2 victories over Rookley Dogs and Shanklin Piranhas.

Division 2 is looking equally close at the top with Rookley Bees holding pole position on 17 points after their 9-1 victory over Smallbrook Warriors.

Paul White and John Worley each won their three games and Carl Rye won two, while Matt Cornforth saved Warriors from a whitewash. Ryde Rooks are second with thanks to a 10-0 sweep of Ryde Ravens, Ed Kennedy, Brian Voller and Tim Featherstone winning all their matches.

First in Division 3 are Smallbrook Muskateers on thanks to their 10-0 win over Newport Vics E with three wins apiece by Jean-Luc Belon, Harry Metz and Roy Bickler.

Smallbrook Still Sharp are close behind in second with 14 points with 7-3 wins over Newport Vics Juniors and Vics E, Maggie Preston being the player on form winning all six of her games played so far.
