Victory for newcomer

DUATHLON NEW Wight Tri member Steve Haggerty, won the club’s Gurnard Grinder Duathlon on Sunday.

He was almost spot on with his nominated time and was second fastest at the event, where members could choose a variety of distance combinations, from the short course of two 1.83-mile runs and a ten-mile cycle, to the long course of two 2.65-mile runs and a 15-mile bike leg.

Steve finished his duathlon in 1.21.15, 1.15 outside his nomination. Second was the fastest woman, Mandy Womack, who finished 2.14 outside her nomination of 1.40.00.

Third was Joe Norman, who was 2.47 out of his nominated time of 1.42.00, was third.

Fastest overall was Jack Grundy, who finished in 1.20.50, which included the fastest run split of 15.47.

Siblings Jack and Arielle Elton-Walters having just joined the club, and competing in their first duathlon won the team event, with Arielle completing both runs and Jack the bike section.

Wight Tri’s next duathlon will be the Chale Duathlon next Sunday, February 24.
