W & B 1, WEST WIGHT 0

W & B clinched the Harwoods-Renault Saturday League Division One title - and their third honour during this campaign - against a stubborn West Wight side this afternoon.

In a tight game, with both defences on top, the home side showed why they have dominated Island football this season and won their third league title in a row.
Just when it looked as though they were heading for a goalless first half, the defending Island champions scored the only goal of the game on 35 minutes, when home defender Joe Adams, blasted a loose ball home from just inside the penalty area.
W & B largely dominated the second half and should have won more comfortably had they not hit the woodwork twice and squandered other good chances in the last ten minutes.
At the final whistle, jubilant W & B captain, Joe Rayner, said: "I'm very relieved. We had such a big lead in the league, but great credit to the other sides for making it such a close finish to the season.
"It's nice to get over the finish line and to win the league three times in a row."
The result turned out to be academic as their nearest challengers, Brading Town, lost 2-1 away to Ventnor.
