ATHLETICS WILL Newnham proved he was one of the Island’s top runners, after winning the IW 10km Track Championship at the Fairway Sports Complex last week.
But the IW Athletic Club youngster was pushed all the way by in-form vet 50 runner Simon McMorran, who was only 20 seconds behind.
Newnham won the event in 35.27, with McMorran finishing in 35.41, a huge new PB and believed to be a new county record for vet 50.
Ryde Harrier Les Cupis was third and top vet 40 in 39.20, while Polly Segar was the top woman, finshing in 42.10.
Second woman, in a PB time of 46.34, was Natalie Lazenby, with Mandy Womack third, and top vet 35, in 52.19.
Other prizes were won by Graham Maitland (first vet 60), Stephen Lee (first vet 70), Ana-Maria Roman (first vet 45) and Judy Brown (first vet 55).
