NEWPORT kicked off the season with a thrilling 4-3 victory against Hayling United yesterday (Saturday).
Port twice came from behind in their Sydenhams Wessex League, Premier Division opener at St George's Park, with goals from Alex Przespolewski (two), Iain Seabrook and Joe Rayner.
The visitors had led through Lee Tigwell, before Przespolewski nodded home to level before half-time.
After the break, an error by Newport goalkeeper, Gary Streeter, gifted Tigwell his second but Newport responded with three strikes, to lead 4-2 going into the final minutes.
Sub Mike Turvey netted a late consolation but Newport hung on for the win.
