Shanklin Ladies 2 v Exeter 1

SHANKLIN Ladies began their adventure in South West Division 1 of the FA Women’s Premier League, with a thoroughly deserved 2-1 win at the County Ground on Sunday.

Early chances came with the home side dominating possession and working hard to regain the ball, and they took a deserved lead when a break down the right wing and fantastic cross in was met by the boot of Gemma WOODFORD, who made no mistake.

As the half wore on, Shanklin continued to dominate, their goalkeeper barely tested. And at the other end they doubled their lead when Susan Cullen’s corner was turned in by Chloe PARKES.

They almost made it 3-0 just before the break, but Kim Arnold was denied by the post.

Exeter began the second half in a more confident mood, but Shanklin continued to work hard and managed to maintain their two-goal advantage.

However, with five minutes remaining, Exeter broke clear and neatly finished to reduce the advantage.

Soon after, player of the match Cullen struck the bar but the hosts held on anyway for the win.
