Friday, March 12, 2010

ATHLETICSPETE Young was once again the star of the show for Island runners taking part in the Hampshire Road Race League, this time winning the vet 60 category of the Salisbury ten-mile race.

Representing Ryde Harriers, Pete finished in a stunning time of 1.02.35.

Nine IW Road Runners also took part, led home by Simon McMorran, who finished 1.01.26, a new personal best and the fastest Island runner on the day, for 60th place.

More personal bests followed for Richard Bruce and Dave Khan who finished in 110th and 161st respectively, in times of 1.05.13 and 1.08.53.

Kev Fry ran another good race for 374th in a time of 1.20.02.

With a 20-mile race and a half marathon in Tom Martin’s legs over the past couple of weeks, he too ran an impressive best time of 1.21.45, for 399th place.

Simon Wray was rightly pleased with his time of 1.22.43, which gave him 415th.

Clare Jones led the IW Road Runners women home with a new personal best of 1.16.48, for 319th. Both Karen Philips and Julie Ray also achieved best times, with Karen 360th in 1.19.24 and Julie 501st, in 1.28.25.

West Wight Road Runners were also represented, with the consistent Gareth Knight leading the team home in 1.08.15.

Ian Jolliffe was next, finishing in 1.17.02, with Andrew McEwan not far behind in 1.19.27. Captain Eric Critchison was next in 1.23.08, with Vic Loveday completing the contingent in 1.30.49.
