IW ATHLETES produced a string of fine performances in the Hampshire Cross Country League on a cold day in Basingstoke.
The performance of the day was in the under-20s girls’ race, where Carla Plowden-Roberts, representing Aldershot and Farnham, came second with a strong run.
Holly Newton performed well in her first league race. Holly ran solidly to claim 11th.
In the under-13s girls’ race, the team was led home by Eden Crumplin, who in her first race of the season produced a fine run to finish 28th. Elsie Lewis produced her best run of the season so far by finishing 47th, while Ellie Bacon finished 67th, meaning the IW team finished ninth.
In the under-15s girls’ race, Louise Ryan in only her second race at this level, underlined her potential by finishing 26th.
Kaya Simpson, racing for Havant, turned in her best performance of the season so far by claiming 20th place in the under-17s race, and putting her 20th in the aggregate league standings. Kaya’s training partner, Annabelle Marsh, had to withdraw from the race after a promising start due to illness.
Also making her debut in the Hampshire league, Katie Lewis ran strongly to claim 45th position in the women’s veterans’ race.
The IW boys also did well, led by Ben Holdsworth who came 21st in the under-13s race, moving him up to 25th in the league aggregate. Charlie Taylor, making his debut at this level, showed real promise to take 28th.
The under-15s boys’ team moved up to seventh in the league after finishing in eighth at Basingstoke.
They were led home by Sam Hutchinson who ran strongly to claim 29th, supported by Aiden Pierce in 34th, Harris Ward in 42nd and Jacob Lewis, 44th.
This performance means that the team are almost guaranteed a top ten place in the league this season.
