BRILLIANT sunshine blessed the competitors and spectators at this year’s White Air festival.

The three-day event featured exciting competition and a whole range of demonstrations and have-a-go sports for the public to watch or try.

Now in its 12th year, White Air has a friend in the Red Arrows, who performed two displays over the weekend. Thousands of people lined the Sandown shoreline to watch the thrilling display under cloudless skies.

Because of a lack of wind, the pro windsurfing competition could not take place, although junior and youth competitions were able to go ahead.

Meanwhile, heavy seas and wind later in the morning prevented the Thundercats from completing their planned long-distance race with an alternative race taking place instead.

However, the earlier lighter winds favoured the paddle board competitors, who completed their competitions.

The highlight for music lovers came on Saturday night when The Pigeon Detectives took to the stage, followed by a set from Radio 1 DJ and Bestival curator Rob da Bank.
