SWIMMINGA SUPERB swim in the final of the 50m backstroke secured a place at the prestigious South East Regional Championships for Jacob Jenner.
The Ryde swimmer had already impressed in the 100m backstroke, taking five seconds off his personal best, before his 50m final during the second weekend of the Hampshire Swimming Championships in Waterlooville.
His 31.90 finish in the 50m, giving him fourth overall, gained automatic qualification to the regional competition in his age group.
Elsewhere, a host of Island swimmers gained new personal best (PB) times.
West Wight’s Ella Armiger, 11, competing in her first championships, gained new PBs in the 50m and 100m breaststroke, in 43.39 and 1.35.93 respectively.
Her coach, Nic Popov, said: "Ella’s progress and achievements over a short period of time have been remarkable and she is now aiming for a regional time."
Another Ryde swimmer, Joe Carter, finished tenth in his first-ever championships in the 50m backstroke and Callum Jenner was eighth in the 50m butterfly.
Seaclose swimmer George Hayward gained a new PB (34.34) to finish tenth in the final of the 50m freestyle and in the 14 years age group, Tilly Jones was 18th in the 50m breaststroke.
Frank Morrison entered two events, with a 13th place finish in the 50m breaststroke his best.
l THE 17th IW Masters Open takes place at Medina Leisure Centre tomorrow (Saturday).
Masters swimmers from the Island’s Marlins, Seaclose and West Wight clubs will compete alongside members from mainland clubs.
Swimming gets underway at 1pm and continues until around 6.30pm.
