THE trial of Edward Randall, 30, and Nicholas Glean, 39, for the murder of Michael Barber, is proceeding at St Albans Crown Court.

The forensic scientist who examined the crime scene said there were footprints in the wet blood near Mr Barber's body.

Glean's jacket and jeans had Mr Barber's blood and DNA on them, the court heard.

An expert said the DNA could have come from sweat or saliva.

Glean's barrister was told it was "possible" the stains on Glean's jacket were from blood spraying after a punch thrown by Randall.

Mr Lewis Thorne, a specialist registrar in neurosurgery at Charing Cross Hospital said Barber's injuries could have been caused by a blunt instrument

Mr Tony Caru, a neighbour of Mrs Susan Rowe, said he had seen her early on Wednesday 9 June, walking from her home carrying a Tesco bag.

Earlier in the trial Mrs Rowe had denied carrying anything with her when she went out.

She denied trying to dispose of evidence.

The case continues.

The full version of events during the fourth day in court can be found in the Friday, January 25, edition of The Watford Observer.
