Barnet's new coaching combination of Peter Shreeves and Martin Allen made a winning start when the Bees eased their way to victory over Hayes at Church Road.

It was their first Conference success for three months and lifted them ten points clear of relegation-threatened third from bottom Hayes with two games in hand.

Barnet took charge from the start and were two goals ahead after 30 minutes.

Danny Brown, in good form in midfield, gave the visitors a 10th minute lead from a neat. cross, Wayne Purser, receiving a long ball from Lee Gledhill, stormed down the right, eluded a challeenge from defender Anthony Charles, before providing a perfect cross for Brown to score with a low drive from six yards via an upright.

Brown turned goalmaker on the half hour, ending a powerful run down the left with an accurate cross for Frazer Toms to score with a well placed header.

Barnet's best move of the match almost produced a third goal just before the interval, Toms, Brown, Purser and Berkley were involved in a slick raid before Purser fired high into the net but was marginally offside.

Hayes, hit by the absense of three suspended players, including former Barnet keeper Bossu, had only three substitutes.

Their only noteworthy effort on target was a powerful goalbound 20 yard drive by defnder Ryan Spencer in the 58 minute that was kept out by keeper Lee Harrison with a magnifiencet flying save.

Despite the loss of Toms, left badly dazzed by an 80th minute collison, the Bees remained firmly on top.
