Charles Brahmbhatt is celebrating after taking his boxing career a stage further after winning his 48kg class at the ABA Junior Championships held at Crystal Palace.

The Sidcup youngster defeated Harry Trutzenbach from Great Yarmouth, who had won the Eastern and Home Counties title.

Charles, a member of Danson Youth Boxing Club based in Brampton Road, Bexleyheath, won the London and Southern Counties Championship to earn the right to compete at Crystal Palace after winning his semi-final in Liverpool in early April.

The final was scored using the computer system and Charles came out on top by a 15-11 margin with his Southpaw jab and left crosses picking up most of his scoring points in the first two rounds.

His opponenent came back strongly in the third but Charles had built up a big enough lead to win with something in hand.

Charles, who was the only regional winner to triumph in the finals in class five for boys born in 1984, now hopes to be selected to train with the England junior squad.
