Thrusting junior executives will be showing off their year's work at the Young Enterprise awards at Harrow Civic centre on Thursday (May 18).

A total of 19 firms formed by students between the ages of 14 and 19 will have their work assessed by a panel of independent judges.

On the night there will be awards for Most Innovative Product, Best Presentation, Best Display or Trade Stand and Best Company Report.

The overall winner will then go on to represent Harrow in the regional contest and then, if successful, follow in the footsteps of last year's winner Gener 8 from Hatch End High School, which was highly commended at the national contest.

Dr Julian Caesar, secretary of the Harrow area Young Enterprise board, praised the overall standard of the competitors.

He said: 'The competition has been running for more than 15 years and I think we are at the very peak. The performance of the companies has been absolutely tremendous.'

Companies have manufactured, marketed and sold products including stress relaxers, jewellery, greetings cards and candles and have achieved turnovers in excess of £3,000.

Some have even taken trips to trade fairs in Malta and Sweden to export their business.

Visitors can inspect the companies' stands from 5pm and formal presentations of awards will be made from 8.30pm.

The judges are Val Axford of the St Ann's Road branch of HSBC, Frances Stickley of Kodak Ltd and Graham Pentecost the Harrow Town Centre manager.
